It was a sunny Friday morning, and Layla, my eight-year-old daughter, and I were driving to my mom’s house. Layla was clearly bored and frustrated with the long drive, so I played her favorite song to cheer her up. Singing together lifted our spirits.
Since my husband left, Layla often seemed sad. I tried my best to make her feel loved and safe. That day, as we drove, I felt grateful for her resilience.
Fatigue began to set in, and we needed to refuel. As we approached a gas station, Layla suddenly yelled for me to stop. She had spotted a man holding a “help” sign and limping towards our car. Reflecting on the experience, I realized Layla had taught me a powerful lesson about the importance of helping others, no matter the fear or uncertainty.
