As Valene Ewing on the well-known TV series Dallas, actress Joan Van Ark first rose to fame in the 1980s. Although this is where she gained the majority of her fame, she returned to her role on the spinoff series Knots Landing in 2012 for just one episode.
Van Ark and her high school sweetheart are happily married and have a daughter together. She’s 78 years old and still going strong. Van Ark asserted that she alone was to blame for Knots Landing’s demise in a recent interview.
Her family moved to Boulder, Colorado when she was a young child. Later in her career, she found the change of scenery to be advantageous.
Van Ark was never in any doubt about her desire to become an actor. She claimed that when the quarterback of her high school football team declined to extend an invitation to the prom, she knew she was destined for show business. Her parents supported her endeavors even though they lacked any prior film industry experience. With roles in both film and television, Van Ark has had an illustrious career spanning more than 50 years.
In a play, Joan Van Ark was given the role of the flower girl after being passed over for the part she had tried out for. After having a good time, she made the decision to take acting more seriously. She found that she loved acting, and it became a big part of her life.
After meeting actress Julie Harris while appearing in Denver, Van Ark enrolled at Yale Theatre School. Van Ark was urged by Harris to pursue acting and drama studies. Van Ark was the youngest student to ever be awarded a scholarship at the esteemed institution and only the second woman to enroll there.

Because of this, she made her Broadway debut, and in 1971, after starring in The School for Wives, she was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play. She made cameo appearances on a number of TV shows, including Temperature’s Rising, Spider-Woman, Days of Our Lives, and even an episode of Bonanza.
